Frequently asked questions (FAQ's)

Why should I have A Treasured Past conduct this meeting?

Our company would love to know that families all over are recording their loved one's histories for posterity!  However, we are realistic and realize that it is easier said than done.  A Treasured Past will make the whole process easy and enjoyable for all involved.  We will provide thought provoking questions and conduct an interview session that will be digitally recorded to DVD video format.

When can I share the finished product with my family?

A Treasured Past will have your completed DVD to you within one to two weeks.  When you choose to share this with your family is up to you.  However, we encourage you to share your history sooner rather than later, in case your family wants to know more.  This will be an invaluable tool to bring your family closer together; to learn about each other, and share the joy of passing on to the next generation your life story.

Describe the process?

The process is simple.  After filling out the Information and History Application form, you will review the sample questions, and determine what direction you would like to go during the interview session.   We can have a spontaneous question and answer format, or you may prefer to have a narrative type scenario.   We will  set up an appointment in your home, or someplace convenient to you.  After the appointment the session will be transfered to DVD and presented to you.

How long does it take?

The session will usually last about four hours.  We can increase the length to accommodate your history.

Should my spouse and I go at the same time?

You can make this type of arrangement if you like.  However, I recommend separate sessions for each person to answer questions on their family history and individual questions.

Am I too young or too old for this?

No.  My grandparents are now the great grandparents of my children and their three first cousins.  They will all benefit from this one time effort.  You also are never too young to document your life, especially if you have young children.  God forbid that an accident should take you from this world too early.  Having a video may be one of the lasting memories your children may have of you.  Tell them in your own words even if you are not present to share it with them.

Will my family appreciate it?

This may be one of the most important gifts you could give your loved ones.  Without you, many questions may go unanswered forever.  Some adults and young children may not truly appreciate the information at first, but we are confident they will come to cherish the history you are leaving them.

Why are you doing this?

Our mission statement says it best, “Capture your history to preserve your past."  Most of us will never have and publish an autobiography or have an author write a biography on us.  So when someone in the future seeks to have a glimpse of who you were, they will rely on stories from relatives, pictures, and other documentation to discover the answers.  The history you preserve with A Treasured Past will be your very own biography.  It will make some laugh, some cry, some find the answers they never knew to ask for.   It could answer for your descendents what medical conditions could be hereditary, to where you were when President Kennedy was assassinated?  The possibilities are endless.

Please don’t delay.  We all tend to procrastinate making big decisions.  We think at the next family gathering we will have more time to sit and talk.  Then before we know it, the gathering is over and there was not a minute to relax, much less talk about old stories.  You may not think it is important to share your history, but your children and loved ones would beg to differ.  This is too important to postpone!  Once you are gone, your view of your past is gone with you.  Let us take the lead and make the process easier for you, but if you want to do it on your own - you have our blessings and we hope you do it soon!

Thanks for allowing us to “Capture your history to preserve your past."
